Expanding Our Alt Baby & Kids Range | Rebel Needleworks Embroidered Clothing

Running a small handmade business is a journey full of creativity, graft, and the occasional unexpected hurdle. But every challenge has a way of sharpening your focus, reminding you what you’re building and why you’re pushing forward. And lately, that focus has been clearer than ever: growing the alt baby and kids range and bringing more eyes to the Rebel Needleworks shop.
Leaning Into the Alt Niche I Love
There’s something incredibly energising about creating pieces that don’t fit the usual pastel mould. The bold designs. The darker tones. The little details that make parents say, “Finally — something different.”
Alt baby and kidswear has always been close to my heart, and it’s becoming a bigger part of the shop because it’s what so many families are looking for. Not everyone wants soft pinks and blues. Some want personality. Some want attitude. Some want their little ones to wear something that feels more them.
And honestly, I love making these pieces. They’re fun, expressive, and full of character — and they’re exactly the kind of designs I make for my own little one.
Balancing the Cute With the Alternative
Of course, the cute personalised pieces aren’t going anywhere. They’re still the heart of the shop — the soft embroidered names, the simple designs that become keepsakes, the items people gift and treasure.
But expanding the alt range means giving customers more choice, more personality, and more ways to express their style through their children’s clothing. It’s a natural evolution of the brand, and one I’m genuinely excited about.
Quietly Rising Above the Noise
When you’re building something from scratch, there will always be moments that test your patience or your confidence. Sometimes people misunderstand what you’re doing, or try to make things harder than they need to be. It’s frustrating, of course — but it also makes you double down on your goals.
Instead of letting distractions pull me off track, I’ve been using them as fuel. Every little bump in the road has pushed me to refine my designs, strengthen my brand, and focus even more on what makes Rebel Needleworks unique.
Driving More Traffic & Growing the Shop
Alongside expanding the alt range, I’ve been putting a lot more energy into getting the shop in front of the right people. That means:
• Improving SEO so customers can actually find the products they’re searching for
• Creating more lifestyle images that show the pieces in a real, relatable way
• Posting consistently on social media to build momentum and community
• Refreshing product descriptions so they’re clear, engaging, and keyword‑friendly
It’s a lot of work, especially balancing being a full time single parent as well. But it’s the kind of work that builds something long‑lasting. For us both.
Moving Forward With Intention
This next chapter is about clarity. About focusing on what I love creating. About offering something different in a world full of the same. And about making sure Rebel Needleworks continues to grow — not just for me, but for my little one who inspires every stitch.
More alt designs. More visibility. More momentum.
And a lot less energy wasted on anything that doesn’t help us move forward.
